A Peek at the Week
This week we learned about pumpkins. We read stories about pumpkins and did activities involving pumpkins. We learned that if you put a face on a pumpkin it is called a jack-o-lantern.
Centers this week: pumpkin coloring activities, putting the steps of carving a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern in order from first to last, making pumpkin pies in the pretend play center, shelf toys, small wooden blocks, and a matching game with pictures of pumpkins and the corresponding number of seeds.
Vocabulary words: fall/autumn, pumpkins, leaves, apples, changing, weather and jack-o-lantern.
Books read: Clifford’s First Autumn, When Autumn Comes, and Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins.
Physical Therapy Group
Please have your child wear sneakers and pants (no dresses) on Wednesdays. This week the students used balloons to help learn more about body parts. They listened to Renee and bounced the balloon using the palm of their hand, back of their hand, fingers, shoulder, thumb, elbows, and knees.
Important Notices
AHHCHOOO! We are working on reminding the students to sneeze and cough into their elbows. This is a great way to help prevent the spread of germs as we approach the cold/flu season!
Reminder: your child needs to be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school after an illness, including vomiting and diarrhea.
A Look Ahead…
Next week will be more autumn fun. During the month of October our topics will be: self-care, body parts, pets, Autumn/Apples/Pumpkins. In November we will learn about farms and furniture and utensils.
Next week a new child, Jacob will be joining our class. This will make TWO Jacob’s in the group! We look forward to meeting him.
Parent conferences are being held November 14 and 15. The finalized schedule will go home next week. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress so far this year.
Picture retake day is Nov 7th.
Extra! Extra!
Thanks to Mrs. Zullo in the PM class for making the great Blue’s Clues counting books.

A Peek at the Week
This week we learned about pets. Our “question of the week” was “Do you have a pet?” We made a chart of yes and no responses to this question and counted how many classmates do and do not have pets. We talked about what pets eat and how to care for pets. We also learned what is the same and different about pets: some eat fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots, others eat special pet food. Some have two or four legs, some have fur, and some have scales.
Centers this week: pretend play veterinarian, shelf toys with pets to build, animal puzzles, two animal matching games, coloring pictures of pets, journals (drawing a pet) and listening center with the story “Where oh where has my little dog gone”.
Vocabulary words: cat, dog, fish, rabbit, guinea pig, snake, bird, horse, ferret, gerbil, hamster, iguana and veterinarian.
Books read: “Emma’s Pet” “Lift-the-Flap Pets” and “Dear Zoo”.

Many times we display class projects on our bulletin board for a few weeks before they are sent home. So, if you ask your child about a project and they can’t remember, it may be that it’s been a few weeks since we actually did that project.
