Mrs. Maruschock’s Pre-K Classroom News January 22, 2009 Morning Edition

A Peek at the Week

~This week we talked about winter weather and the activities we do in the winter. We brought in some snow from outside and watched what happened when it was in our hands. We talked about how the snow changes from snow to water-called melting.

Centers:
Project
-making a polar bear with cotton balls; Shelf toys-playing with various toys; sensory fun with snow in the sensory table; listening to-various stories; coloring winter pictures various vehicles on the rug; kitchen with fraction pizzas; and sorting keys by color and size.

~Books we read: I Am Snow, and The Mitten

~Vocabulary words: four seasons, winter, weather, cold, snow, sledding, skiing, skating, snowboarding, snowman, change, melt, water.

Physical Therapy Group

The morning class did not have PT group this week.

Please remember sneakers and no dresses on Wednesdays.

Important Notices

+ WANT MILK? It’s time for the second semester of milk. You may sign your child up to purchase milk at school by filling out the milk form which was sent home recently. If you have any questions regarding the online account system, please let us know.

Due Feb 3.

+ Please remind your children to walk on the sidewalks and stay with an adult. This is an important safety rule around school and in the community.

+ Please send your child to school with mittens instead of gloves. We are working on self-help skills in preschool, and gloves are too difficult for these kiddos to put on.

+ Please remember no boots should be worn in school. If you send your child to school wearing boots, please send a pair of shoes to change in to.

A Peek at the Week

~This week we talked about winter weather and the activities we do in the winter.

Centers: Project-making a winter book; Shelf toys-playing with various toys; sensory fun with goop (see recipe on the back); game-Penguin Pat-taking a fish and matching it to the correct spot on the game board; blocks-mega blocks and waffle blocks; listening to the story-Penguin Pete and Pat; coloring winter pictures.

~Rhyming: Leo the Lion puppet rhymed with jar: car, star, guitar rhyme with jar. The students have been doing GREAT pointing out words that rhyme when we are doing various activities, including reading stories. This is a great activity for you to do at home as well.

~Books we read: When Winter Comes, Winter Rabbit and The Snowy Day

Physical Therapy Group

This week the students played another fun game-pretending to be ice-skating on a pond. They used white pom poms as pretend snowballs, and threw them at each other to get that person “out”. Everyone had fun with this game.
