September 20, 2007 Morning Edition

A Peek at the Week
This week we learned all about Families. We talked about the different members in our families, and what role we play in our family. Some of us are sisters or brothers, some of us have baby sisters or brothers, and some of us have pets. We talked about how we are alike and how we are different. We talked about whether we are girls or boys, and learned that all brothers, uncles, grandpas and Dads are boys, and all sisters, aunts, grandmas and Moms are girls.

Vocabulary words: family, mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa, girl, boy, alike, different.
Books read: “Clifford’s Family”, and “This is My Family”.

Physical Therapy Group
Please have your child wear sneakers and pants (no dresses) on Wednesdays. This week the students worked on the skills of hopping, skipping, running, galloping, etc. Also, we used hoops to practice our listening skills. The students went in the hoop, out of the hoop, around the hoop, etc.

Important Notices
~Please remember to send your child to school wearing clothes and shoes appropriate for play. Sandals are not recommended, and flip-flops are prohibited as stated in the school handbook.

~ Thanks for your cooperation with the change to the pick up routine in Pre-K. If someone other than yourself will be picking up your child on any given day, please write a note on that day letting us know the name of the person picking up the child. If we have not met this person previously, we will be asking the person for a picture ID. Thanks for your help with this important safety matter.

~AHHCHOOO! We are working on reminding the students to sneeze and cough into their elbows. This is a great way to help prevent the spread of germs as we approach the cold/flu season!

~We are sending home a class list for your information.

A Look Ahead…

During the month of September, our topics will be: Getting to Know Each Other, Our Families, and Self-Help skills. October topics: self-care, body parts, pets, Autumn/Apples/Pumpkins.

~As part of our unit on families, we asked each student to please send in a picture of his/her family that will be used to make a class book about families, which will stay in the classroom the entire year. Thanks to those families who sent in their picture; the students really enjoyed sharing their pictures with their classmates. If you haven’t sent them in yet, please do so ASAP so it can be included in the class family book.

Extra! Extra!
~Snack news: It’s not too late to have your child purchase milk at school. If interested, let us know and we will let you know the price. Also, we only have enough time for the children to eat one snack at snack time. If more than one item is sent, we will ask the student to choose which one he/she would like to eat and keep the other one in the snack bag.
~This newsletter will be posted each week on the classroom’s website, which is in need of updating since my medical leave. To view this newsletter online, visit http://ecsprekam.blogspot.com/

~Thanks to Mrs. Nims for volunteering to be the room parent for the classroom.

~Thanks to those parents who volunteered to help out with posting the newsletter online, by cutting things out at home, or coming in to school to do photocopying/laminating etc. We appreciate everyone’s help!

~Do you have an email address? If you prefer communicating by email, please feel free to give me your email address for day-to-day correspondence. Please be aware that leaving a voicemail is the BEST way to get messages to us, such as if your child will be absent.

~My email address is knagy@cromwellct.org

Have a nice weekend!
