Mrs. Maruschock’s Pre-K Classroom News February 26, 2009 Morning Edition

A Peek at the Week

~ This week at school we learned about dental health. We learned why it’s important to take care of our teeth and what happens if we don’t take care of our teeth.
Centers this week:

Project-making a healthy tooth and a not so healthy tooth based on the foods we eat; Shelf toys-playing with various toys; patterns-making patterns using snap cubes; coloring tooth pictures; kitchen-looking for healthy foods in the kitchen center; Games-we played two tooth games-counting the teeth and another where we move to spaces-visiting the dentist and eating healthy foods on the way.

~Books we read: My Bright Smile! I Know What To Do!

~Vocabulary words: teeth/tooth, toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, floss, in between, molars, canines, incisors, healthy, decay, plaque and cavity.


Physical Therapy Group

In PT group the students played a color/shape game which involved following directions and doing the correct action on the way to the different colored shapes. Everyone did great with this.
Please remember sneakers and no dresses on Wednesdays.

Important Notices

+ We had a student-Kailey-visit us for a few days this week. The children did a great job welcoming her to the classroom for her short visit.

+ The new entrance to the school building is open. Thank you for bearing with us during this transition-we are trying to work out the logistics of it all. Please remember you do still need to sign out on the clipboard in the office before picking up your child in the dismissal room.

A Peek at the Week

~This week and last week we learned about dinosaurs as well as Valentine’s Day. On Thursday we exchanged Valentine cards-everyone had lots of fun with this!
Centers this week and last:
Projects-making a paper dinosaur out of shapes; making a dinosaur egg with sand and glue; Shelf toys-playing with various toys; listening center-Dinofours I’m Not Your Friend; coloring dinosaur pictures; blocks with dinosaurs on the rug; being paleontologists-finding dinosaur fossils hidden around the classroom and assembling the dinosaur puzzle; and journals.

~Books we read: Dinosaur Day, Incredible Dinosaurs to Look At, Emily’s Valentine Party, I Need a Valentine, and Arthur’s Valentine.

~Vocabulary words: dinosaur, paleontologist, extinct, fossils, bones, love, Valentine.

Physical Therapy Group

In PT group the students played a matching game with colored hearts. Everyone enjoyed this fun game.

Please remember sneakers and no dresses on Wednesdays.

+ Book orders are due by today, Feb 12th. However, if you order online, you can do so until 9am Friday.

+ The new entrance to the school building will be opening soon. Please be aware when this change happens-pick up and drop off procedures will be changing slightly. Stay tuned…
